The pickup zones at most airports are usually hectic areas. Many cars travel at a fast pace alongside hundreds of pedestrians who are just trying to find their ride and get to their destination. The frantic nature of the pickup area at Newark International Airport contributed to a car accident that put an 83-year-old New Jersey man in the hospital with serious injuries.
The 83-year-old was hit by a car while looking for his ride, and he suffered a variety of injuries that have left him on a respirator. The older gentleman is recovering from a serious leg fracture and myriad cuts to his face and hands from the car accident.
Police admitted to the dangers presented by the walkways between the airport terminals at Newark International Airport. "Usually in front of the terminal the cars aren't moving that quick, but on the express roadway they are going at a pretty good clip," a Port Authority Police spokesman said.
While no citations or charges were made against the driver of the car involved in the accident, police continue to investigate the incident. One major piece of the car accident is the attentiveness of the driver. It is possible that the driver was not paying attention to the road around him, or that the car was pulling into an area of the airport pickup zone that is meant for pedestrians.
Should reckless driving or negligent behavior on the part of the driver be discovered, the 83-year-old can pursue legal action. Medical expenses accrued from a car accident can cause financial hardship for many victims. Consulting with a proper legal representative can maximize your chance of earning fair compensation in a personal injury suit.
